So what is soap?

Did you know that the soap you use probably is not even Soap?  It is probably a synthetic detergent made with petroleum products with harsh chemicals.
In order to be a true "soap" the item must be composed mainly of the "alkali salts of fatty acids."  That is the material you get when you combine animal fats or vegetable oils with an alkali, such as lye.  The natural process that turns fats or oil into soap is known as saponification.   No saponification, no soap.

Isn't lye soap harsh and bad for you?

People often think because true soap is created with lye, that lye would be in their soap and therefore on their skin.  This is a common misconception.  When lye soap is made correctly there is no lye left in the bar once it has went through the saponification process.

During saponification, the lye and oil molecules have combined and chemically changed into soap and glycerin.  When made correctly, lye is completely used up during the saponification process.

So in conclusion, there would be no lye in your bar of soap.

Why goats milk?

Goat milk contains built in natural exfoliaters, alpha-hydroxy acids. These acids exfoliate the skin by destroying the bonds that hold dead skin cells together. This reveals fresh, new skin cells that are healthier, smoother and younger looking.

Goats milk also contains a variety of vitamins.   It is high in Vitamin A, Niacin, Thiamine and Vitamin B6.  Vitamin A is necessary for the body to repair damaged skin tissue and maintain healthy skin.  Niacin has been proven to help protect skin from sun damage.  Thiamine and Vitamin B6 both promote healthy skin growth and maintenance.

Goat milk also naturally contains Minerals, Potassium, Magnesium and Selenium.  These promote healthy skin and may even help protect your skin from sun damage and some cancers.  These along with the moisturizing effects of the fats used to make soap, help promote healthy, moisturized and hydrated skin.

Our Story

Chasing Buffalo soap was born from our love of all natural goat milk soap.  After years and years of obsessively buying soaps and having pet goats, we finally jumped off the cliff and started milking our small farm herd.

We raise Nigerian Dwarf goats.  We are working on our entire herd breeding blue eyed, moon spotted babies.  We had goats for 12 years before we started making soap.  Our intention was to make soap and goat cheese from the day we bought our first goats.  Better late than never they say.

Since producing our own soaps, we no longer have a need for skin moisturizers, shampoos and conditioners or shaving cream.  Yep, we have a bar for all of that.  It is crazy how much we love researching and concocting new recipes for one of a kind soap bars.  We hope you love them as much as we do.
